Kenya, wild and wonderful, a picture perfect coastline and all the African game your heart desires. This is the land of “Out of Africa”, “Born Free” and “the Big Cat Diaries” and home of countless wildlife documentaries with cheetah sitting on termite mounds and atop vehicles surveying the plains, lions in abundance, plains covered in herds of game and Maasai tribesmen jogging through the bushes.
Although Kenya is a popular destination for game viewing , particularly in the Masai Mara where some of the finest in the world is to be found, there are still remote, secluded wildlife experiences to be had here but one needs to be selective. Choose homesteads situated outside the National Parks and Reserves and avoid the busier routes going for the wild and unfettered tracts of wilderness where vehicles are few and safaris are on foot or even by camel.
Kenya has something for everyone from the game filled Masai Mara, Samburu, Amboseli and Meru to the stunning Laikipa Plateau with its camels. The migration runs from July to October between the Maasai Mara Game Reserve (which has the largest population of lion in Africa) and the Serengeti National Park. Samburu is a small scenic park with diverse vegetation following the course of the Ewaso Nyiro River. The Kenyan coast is renowned for its world class fishing, dhows, fruit-filled donkey pulled carts and beautiful beaches with the delightful islands of Lamu and Funzi adding more strings to Kenya’s bow.
