After years of isolation, travellers are re-discovering Mozambique with its amazing coastline and pristine tropical beaches fringed with coconut palms and endless coral reefs. Small lodges on otherwise uninhabited islands make this an ideal post-safari beach destination.
Mozambique is wild, undeveloped and, best of all, unexplored. The palm fringed coastline with mile upon mile of exquisite white beaches dotted with tiny villages where local fishermen and turtles come home to nest.
Attention in Mozambique is focused around the islands of the two archipelagos, namely the Bazaruto and Quirimba. Their proximity to the Equator, idyllic sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters of the warm Indian Ocean and spectacular coral reefs provide for unrivalled sunbathing, swimming, diving and fishing. Combine this with purposely built eco-friendly lodges and 5 star service and one can see why so much attention is paid to this part of Mozambique.
The mainland has remained completely off limits for all but the most adventurous of travellers but this is changing rapidly and with improved travel around the country The Niassa Game Reserve is something to see and will in time become more populated by game lodges.
For the moment though if you want to discover a country before others then this is the place to visit.
